Okay, your refrigerator needs replacing, but the budget is a bit snug these days. You’re certainly not the first person who has been in this situation. But a lot of people who are in this situation don’t even consider browsing at a used appliance store.
Where Do They Get Those Used Appliances?
From people remodeling their kitchens, quite often. Most of the time, the kitchen wasn’t a wretched pit of awfulness before it was remodeled, either – it was just in the way of someone who wanted a new kitchen or a different look. The smart ones get a trade-in allowance from their appliance store, and the naive ones pay a disposal fee.
The people selling new appliances don’t want to refurbish or sell the trade-in, so they sell the used kitchen equipment to the used appliance store.
Did Someone Say Refurbished?
Absolutely. Used appliance stores have appliance mechanics on staff, to check over the incoming equipment and make sure it’s in good working order. Ask the salesperson if the appliance is certified, and how long the certification runs for. It’s usually the same period as a warranty on new equipment, and often even longer.
Dream Big
Used appliance stores don’t always have smaller commercial kitchen equipment in stock, but they might. Want a refrigerator that will never be too small, even getting ready for a big holiday dinner? How about a freezer that will hold meat for a very enthusiastic hunter?
That Better For Less That We Mentioned
It works like this. You need a new refrigerator, and the best price you can find on the 20 cu. ft. you need is $800. Go to the used appliance store, and see what $600 will buy. The odds are good that you can get larger, higher quality, and more features while keeping $200 in your pocket.
But The Color Doesn’t Match My Kitchen.
Not a problem. Auto paint shops know that appliances are much easier to mask and paint, and much smaller than cars. Call a few and see how much they want for a new paint job for your new Whirlpool.
Or, if you’re of a whimsical bent, go custom. If you’re a Dr. Who fan, have the side-by-side painted to look like the Tardis. Have it painted to look like a bookcase, or anything else you can dream up.
The world is full of spray-can artists in search of a canvas that they won’t be arrested for. Many of them are students, so talk with your local art teacher and see if they can put you in touch with one of the more impressive students.
There’s no good reason to be afraid of used appliances. Look them over. For more information, you may want to consult with Silver Chef Canada for their resources and insights.
